Our Story
At 1500 feet, on five acres of rocky, alluvial soil, Sharp Mountain Vineyards is perfectly situated for doing what it does best, handcrafting fine wines in the old-world fashion.
Our unique vineyard, established in 1995, was built on one simple principle, ” The finest wines come from the finest fruits”. Therefore, everything that Sharp Mountain Vineyards does honors this guiding principle.
What makes Sharp Mountain Vineyards so distinctive is our solitary focus on creating exceptional wines and providing a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for our guests. Sharp Mountain Vineyards proudly grows 12 varieties of wines for tasting and purchase.
Firstly, we carefully tend the plants throughout the year. Secondly, we handpick the grapes at harvest. Most importantly, we personally attend to every detail of the wine making process .
As a result, our focus is to promote quality over quantity.
The same attention to detail extends to the friendly and festive tasting room and gift shop where connoisseurs and novices alike are never disappointed.

Sharp Mountain Vineyards welcomes guests to bring their own picnic fare and relax at the pavilion overlooking the vineyard and Sharp Mountain in beautiful North Georgia. It’s an awe-inspiring view and the perfect setting in which to eat, drink, and leave your worries behind!

Our Land
Sharp Mountain, overlooking Jasper, GA seems worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet on a clear day you can look down on Atlanta as well as Stone Mountain from its heights. In fact, Sharp Mountain Vineyards, a North Georgia mountain farm winery, is just a 45 minute drive to Atlanta, making it the perfect venue for a days outing. Pack a picnic, enjoy a mountain drive and join us for a tour and tasting. Savor your picnic, listen to live music in our shaded pavilion while drinking in the beautiful view; rows and rows of espaliered vines against a backdrop of blue-green rolling hills and a commanding view of Sharp Mountain.
Our Wines
Ron Rathgeb established Sharp Mountain Vineyards with a single focus, to produce the best quality wines possible. Ron planted the vineyard in 1995 with vines that are all European Vinifera. Sharp Mountain Vineyards produces approximately 12 tons annually or about 800 cases per year. This lower capacity enable Ron, Jody & Family to give the wines the kind of attention that makes each wine special. All of the wines are low in sulfites with balanced tannins.
